Sometimes You Get a 1-2 Punch...
It happens. Sometimes you have those moments when you get a 1-2 punch, and November has been one of those months where everything just seemed to go off the rails of what I had planned.
The original plan was for November to be a pretty hardcore month, hitting the gym every single day, getting in HIIT, lifts, and Low Intensity Steady State cardio. Instead, it’s been a month of could-have-been.
It started on November 6, when I was walking back from the polls and slipped on some wet leaves, landing directly on my rear end. Thankfully nothing was broken, but my rear was sore for well over a week. Squatting was difficult, as was just bending over. This resulted in some limited success in leg days.
Just as I was recovering from that, I start to get a sore throat. End result? A nasty cold that sapped all of my energy. I am just finishing that up, and I feel like this will be the last day. It’s resulted in lower volume workouts, less intensity, and skipping metabolic finishers because I simply didn’t have the energy to even get them in.
Finally, things are starting to normalize. Then comes Thanksgiving and two days of travel. However, I have that planned. Wednesday morning, hit the gym early before we leave. Thursday on the road and no workout except body weight. Finally, Friday evening back at it again while everyone is losing their mind over Black Friday sales. A full week after that, and then traveling but I’ve already identified a gym nearby the office I will be working from the first week of December.
Finally things seem to be normalizing. I just have to keep pushing towards my goals. There have been some set backs this month, but I’ll get better, update my baseline, and go back at it hard.
Everything is a process when it comes to fitness. You take the good with the bad, you work hard, and you achieve your goals no matter what through consistency and perseverance.
