Bringing a Presence
As a kid, I was always enamored with musicals. It wasn't just the music, but the performance itself. I loved the way people performed with such dedication, the way they moved, and the way they were a presence on the stage.
On SiriusXM last week they were talking about OneRepublic's new song "Wanted", and specifically Ryan Tedder dancing in the music video. Specially his moves and flow during the music video.
As I watched the video, it reminded me a lot of the way I will dance in my apartment to music playing in my headphones. I move around a lot, I flow, and I enjoy the music. I like to be one with it. However, I am certain from the outside looking in it probably looks more like a monkey flailing around than anything coordinated.
I began to think about this in terms of my fitness journey. As I've gone through different stages of fitness, from... you know... not dying, and then into the more physical and strength aspect, then towards thinking about the physique aspect, and more recently into the functional movement concepts I've realized that movement is where I want to be.
My desire for movement also reinforces my emphasis on functional training recently; to be able to move and slide and flow with life. I want to be able to squat deep and move my body. This doesn't mean I don't want to be as strong as I can be, or that I don't want to have the physical appearance to go with it. It simply means that for me, it's more important how I move than how the body looks.
One of my goals over the next few months is to begin writing on the blog more frequently. I realized last week it had been months since I updated this blog; I have been posting some to social media, but not here. I want to change that so I can get back to working on more long form writing. Especially over the next 8 weeks, and the next post will address exactly that; the F45 Challenge.
